Grade 7 Assembly Brings Global Causes to the Center Stage

The auditorium at GIIS KL buzzed with enthusiasm and purposeful energy on the morning of April 28th, 2026, as the students of Grade 7 gathered for their combined assembly. The event served as a vibrant platform for young minds to explore, express, and educate their peers on critical global issues, beautifully intertwining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the school's signature 9Gems framework. Under the guidance of their respective class teachers, Grades 7A, 7B, and 7C each took center stage to shed light on unique international observances.

Grade 7A, led by Ms. Anuradha Janagiraman, commenced the presentations by focusing on World Tuna Day, an international observance dedicated to highlighting the critical importance of sustainable tuna fisheries and marine conservation. The students delivered a stirring address, followed by a creative skit that emphasized the role of tuna as a rich protein source and the urgent need to promote sustainable fishing practices. Their performance masterfully linked these themes to poverty eradication and zero hunger (SDG 1 and SDG 2) while advocating for community connection. The segment concluded with an expressive dance performance that resonated with the themes of sustainable cities and responsible consumption (SDG 11 and SDG 12), visually reinforcing the message of protecting marine ecosystems (SDG 14) and fostering creativity.

The narrative then shifted to a celebration of humanity and selfless service as Grade 7B, guided by Ms. Prachi Goel, took the stage to honor International Nurses Day. Celebrating the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the students paid a heartfelt tribute to the world’s nurses, whom they rightfully termed the "unsung heroes" of society. Their presentation featured a touching skit that captured the relentless dedication and compassion of healthcare workers, balancing emotional depth with moments of lighthearted humor. A moving poem expressed deep gratitude for the constant support nurses provide, and a graceful dance performance celebrated their healing spirit, reminding everyone of the invaluable role these professionals play in spreading comfort and hope daily.

Concluding the assembly, Grade 7C, under the guidance of Ms. Smita Suryavanshi Roy, brought attention to International Kangaroo Care Awareness Day. Through an engaging presentation and a practical demonstration using a doll, the students illustrated the profound benefits of skin-to-skin contact between parents and newborns, particularly for premature babies. They paired this demonstration with an insightful skit that explained how this simple practice helps infants regulate their body temperature, breathe better, and grow stronger. This impactful segment fostered a deep sense of empathy and responsibility among the students, aligning perfectly with goals for good health, quality education, and reduced inequalities (SDG 3, SDG 4, and SDG 10) by proving that even the simplest acts of care can save lives.

Grade 7 combined assembly successfully demonstrated the power of student-led awareness, leaving the audience with a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability, societal gratitude, and healthcare empathy.
